Sustainability at VELO DE VILLE: Our REMONDIS Certificate 2024

For us at VELO DE VILLE, sustainability is not a trend, but an obligation. For years, we have been committed to environmentally friendly processes and resource-efficient production – and this is also officially recognised!

REMONDIS AG & Co. KG assesses the sustainability of a company's activities and awards a sustainability certificate as a seal of quality for the way it handles limited resources, promotes recycling and adheres to environmental standards. We received the REMONDIS sustainability certificate back in 2022, and now we are delighted to receive this important award again for 2024.

What does the certificate entail?

The REMONDIS Sustainability Certificate confirms our sustainable waste recycling and documents the positive effects on the environment and climate. Thanks to our collaboration with REMONDIS, we were able to achieve impressive savings again this year:

  • 38.1 tonnes of oil equivalent in fossil resources saved
  • 14.9 tonnes of copper equivalent less metal consumption

  • 136.5 tonnes of wood equivalent of biogenic resources saved
  • 1,411.7 MWh of energy saved – this corresponds to the electricity and heating needs of 83 households
  • 115.7 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent less greenhouse gases – comparable to a car driving over 700,000 kilometres

Why is this important?

As a manufacturer of customised bicycles and e-bikes, we focus on durable, sustainable products. But sustainability does not end with our bikes – our production processes and the recycling of our waste also play a major role. The REMONDIS certificate shows that we act responsibly and make an active contribution to climate protection.

Our commitment continues

Sustainability is an ongoing process. We are constantly working to make our production processes even more efficient and resource-friendly – for an environmentally friendly future and more riding fun on two wheels.

How is the sustainability certificate awarded?

The REMONDIS sustainability certificate and the resulting evaluation are based on a total of six categories.

1. collection: the waste is carefully categorised on site. Depending on the material stream, the recorded waste quantity and the required container emptying are recorded.

2. transport: REMONDIS checks the container types and the transport distances. Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are minimised by means of efficient logistics and the shortest possible transport routes.

3. processing: REMONDIS divides the material flow into pure material flows and crushes them. The higher the material quality before the first processing step, the less energy and the lower the emissions will be for the division of the material flow and for further processing into high quality recycled raw materials.

4. Delivery: The processed materials are transported to the production sites and used as recycled materials. The type of vehicle, the distance to the sites and efficient route planning are crucial for reducing energy consumption and the emission of pollutants.

5. Utilisation: Recycled materials are used to generate energy, which leads to a reduction in emissions and significantly relieves the material cycle.

6. Substitution of raw materials: By using high-quality recycled raw materials, primary raw materials can be replaced and saved.
